Dibrugarh: A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Friday at the CSIR–North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) in Jorhat, triggering a massive emergency response that lasted nearly ten hours before the blaze was finally brought under control.A firefighter sustained injury after chemicals accidentally fell on his leg during the operation. He was rushed to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
According to officials, the fire erupted around 2 am at the institute’s central warehouse, where large quantities of chemical substances and various research materials were stored. Within moments of, the blaze triggered more than ten powerful explosions in quick succession. A total of 15 fire tenders were deployed.“The presence of chemicals made the fire exceptionally difficult to extinguish the fire,” a fire safety official said.
