CRPF man loses 10L after theft of ATM cards, phone on train

Kolkata: A CRPF man — who was travelling from Lucknow to the northeast via Howrah Station — reported fraudulent transactions of Rs 10 lakh from his account on Thursday after his ATM cards, mobile phone and two SIM cards were allegedly stolen from the second AC coach of Kumbh Express that departs from Dehradun. Cyber frauds allegedly used his card details for online orders and ATM withdrawals. However, he managed to intimate his bank and freeze transactions worth Rs 6 lakh. But transactions worth Rs 4 lakh made from his three accounts couldn’t be frozen. The frozen money was yet to be recovered.

He was to take flight to Imphal in Manipur from Kolkata. But it took him some time to lodge a general diary at Howrah GRP after he arrived around 3.15 am, one of his relatives said. He stayed back at the CRPF camp in Kolkata. Cops said stolen numbers and manipulated IP addresses were used to execute the fraud. A probe is on, said sources.
