Pune: Rahul Taru from Sahakarnagar, a criminal on police records, obtained a firearm licence from the Pune city police in 2022 after tweaking his name and address, Pune rural SP Sandeep Singh Gill told TOI on Tuesday.Lonavla police on Friday evening arrested Taru for opening fire in the air from a pistol while threatening his ‘girlfriend’ following an argument near Lonavla ST bus stand around 9pm on Wednesday.“Taru, who has six body offences against his name, told us that he had a valid firearm licence. We seized the pistol as well as the licence. Taru is a resident of Sahakarnagar in Pune and he has a farmhouse in Mulshi. He gave an address of Lonikand and tweaked his name to get the firearm licence in 2022 from the Pune city police. We will soon write about this to the Pune police,” Gill said.The police officer said the two reachd Lonavla in a car. “Taru fired two rounds in the air after slapping his girlfriend. Our team studied the car’s registration number and reached Taru,” Gill said.
