Cow dung cakes from Kanha shelters to be used in Holikas

Prayagraj: In a step towards ecofriendly celebrations cow dung cakes will be used for Holikas in Sangam city.Under the Green Holika Dahan initiative launched by the state govt, the authorities of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) are implementing measures to replace wood with cow dung cakes, and the corporation’s Kanha cow shelters would play a key role in this effort. Animal husbandry officer of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation Vijay Amritraj said that over 2 lakh cow dung cakes are being prepared from the cow dung produced in the corporation’s three Kanha cow shelters.The Kanha cow shelters in Shankargarh, Gohari, and Mariadih are working round the clock to prepare cow dung cakes. So far, over 1 lakh cow dung cakes are being prepared which will be sent to the Holika Dahan sites by the last week of Feb. Environmental scientist professor NB Singh said said that burning Holika with cow dung cakes will stop the cutting of green trees and will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
