Kanpur: A speeding car fell into a 20-foot canal in Auraiya, killing a businessman, his wife and their son.The accident occurred under the Achhalda police station area late Wednesday, when the family was travelling home by car after attending a pre-wedding ceremony in Etawah. On Thursday morning, passersby spotted a car tyre in the canal and alerted locals, who informed the police. The police arrived with a tractor and JCB, and villagers helped tie a rope to the car. With the tractor and JCB’s help, they pulled the car out of the canal.
The car’s doors were locked, and when the glass was broken, three bodies were found inside. Police recovered a water-damaged phone from the vehicle and removed the SIM to contact saved numbers. This led them to a Shahjahanpur businessman, who identified the owner, helping police track down the family. The deceased were identified as Rajiv Kumar Porwal, 60, his wife Madhu Gupta, 55, and their son Shubham, 27 — residents of the Bharthana police station area.
