Surat: Varachha police found and returned an 11-month-old labrador dog, six days after it was stolen. Police checked footage from 70 CCTV cameras to find the dog, which was being kept about 10km away, in the Dindoli area. The owner of a cattle shed, Mayur Nakum, 20, filed complaint after his pet dog, Jax, went missing . Police inquired into the matter and were stunned to find that Jax had been stolen.R B Gojiya, Varachha inspector, said: “The dog named Jax went missing from near its owner’s home in Vijaynagar 2 Society on Feb 4. The family had got Jax 10 months earlier, when he was a a month old. As they were attached to Jax, they approached us. We found that a person on a moped drove up near Jax and took him away. “From the CCTV footage trail, we identified the person. He had handed over the dog to a friend. We located Jax after six days of work after going through footage from 70 CCTV cameras. Jax was found in a society in Dindoli, which is 10km away from its home.” According to police, the person who took the dog did not try to find its owner. As he took the dog with him, it would be considered theft. The original owner is happy after the dog was found and is not willing to file a complaint. “When we first heard of the matter, we were told the dog cost Rs 18,000. However, the emotions involved were priceless. We will file a complaint if the owner so wishes.” The owner has a cattle shed and keeps buffaloes for his milk business.
