Cops intensify process to forfeit assets of codeine scam kingpin’s aides

Varanasi: After forfeiting properties of codeine cough syrup kingpin Subham Jaiswal’s jailed father, Bhola Prasad Jaiswal and other family members, Special Investigation Team of Varanasi commissionerate police has now started compiling list of properties of his racket members, either arrested or absconding.After reviewing progress in investigation and action in multi-crore-rupee codeine cough syrup siphoning and smuggling by SIT on Saturday evening, police commissioner Mohit Agrawal issued strict directives to collect details of their illegally earned properties. “SIT has been asked to intensify the process of gathering information about movable and immovable properties of Shubham Jaiswal’s close associates to be forfeited under 68(F) NDPS Act and 107 BNSS,” said Agrawal, adding that information was also being gathered about a hawala network operating from the Bangladesh international border in connection with the racket.

About action taken so far, police commissioner said two warehouses were unearthed and 1,19,700 bottles of illegally manufactured cough syrup with codeine worth Rs 2.63 crore were recovered. A total of 28 accused were arrested so far. A total of 65 bank accounts with Rs 5.7 crore were frozen, and eight immovable properties worth Rs 30.47 crore were attached. Look out circular was issued against 40 accused and a blue corner notice was issued against two main accused, Aakash Pathak and Shubham Jaiswal. In international smuggling, CP said 71 batches were seized while being smuggled to Bangladesh through West Bengal and Tripura routes at the international border by Narcotics Control Bureau, BSF, West Bengal Police, and Tripura Police.Action under PITNDPS Act, 1988 will be ensured against Shubham Jaiswal and other accused involved in organised crime.
