Cops get 4-day custody of prime accused in mephedrone planting case

Surat: A court here granted four-day custodial interrogation of Chirag Goti, the prime accused in the case relating to the alleged planting of 70g of mephedrone in a car in the Singanpor police station jurisdiction. Goti surrendered before a Surat court on Monday. ACP Z R Desai produced Goti in court on Tuesday and sought seven-day custody. The court granted four days. According to the case details, 10 months ago, Alpesh Miyani, who lives near Katargam Hathi Mandir, was caught with mephedrone worth Rs 7 lakh by Singanpor police near Ved Road Gurukul.The investigation found that Miyani had been framed and the drug planting had been orchestrated by his business partner, Chirag Goti, his brother, Nirant Goti, and father, Ghanshyam Goti.Chirag Goti then fled, while ACP Z R Desai and his team arrested Nirant and Mohammed Hamza alias Rizwan Badshah from Lal Gate. A chargesheet was filed against both, declaring Chirag Goti and the seller of the drugs, Mohammed Safwan Mohammed Ishaq Mewawala, to be ‘wanted’.During a hearing on the bail application filed by Chirag’s brother, the Supreme Court granted two weeks’ time to surrender. Chirag then surrendered in the presence of his advocate, Ketan Reshamwala, on Monday.A dispute had arisen between Chirag and Miyani over the oil business. In Dec 2024, their company was raided for GST issues, leading to the sealing of oil stocks, which led to their separation. Nursing a grudge, Chirag allegedly planted the drugs in Miyani’s car, the police investigation found. Chirag had allegedly fled to Nepal to evade police.
