‘Cop’ pulls off 9.5L daylight heist in Gkp

Gorakhpur: A conman reportedly executed a daring daylight robbery and fled with Rs 9.5 lakh from an employee of a jewellery shop in the busy Ghantaghar market in Gorakhpur on Friday. The incident occurred near Mumbai Cloth House, close to Kalibari temple, when Sanjay Pal, an employee of RC Ornament owned by jeweller Baliram Jaiswal, was heading to deposit cash at a PNB branch on Geeta Press Road. Pal was carrying Rs 9.5 lakh at the time.According to police, an unidentified man wearing trousers and a jacket resembling a police uniform stopped Pal around 11.15 am. The suspect snatched the cash bag and asked the employee to bring GST-related documents, assuring him the money would be returned. When Pal went back to fetch the papers, the accused fled the spot.Eyewitnesses said the suspect escaped on a bike. CCTV footage from nearby shops shows two youths on a bike — the rider wearing a helmet while the pillion rider had his face covered. Police began scanning CCTV footage to identify the suspects. Later, the victim trader, Baliram Jaiswalj, submitted a written complaint at Kotwali police station, demanding strict action. tnn
