Cop catches drunk school van driver in Thergaon | Pune News

Pune: A police constable from the Pimpri Chinchwad traffic branch was alarmed on Monday when she discovered that the driver of a school van carrying her two daughters and other students was intoxicated.With the help of her husband and a neighbour, she apprehended the driver and his assistant and took them to the Kalewadi police station. “After a medical examination, it was confirmed that both the driver and the person accompanying him had consumed alcohol,” said assistant inspector Vaibhav Gurav of the Kalewadi police.The police registered a case against the two under section 185 (drunk driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act, as well as relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. “Notices were issued to both, and they have been asked to cooperate with the investigation,” Gurav added.The constable told TOI that she had hired the van to transport her daughters to and from school. While picking them up around 3pm, she noticed that the driver and his companion were intoxicated and creating a ruckus while driving. “There were six students, including my daughters, in the van. I immediately called my husband, who confirmed that both men were drunk,” she said.With the neighbour’s help, she and her husband took the driver and the assistant to the Kalewadi police station.Gurav said the police also took the duo to the civic hospital in Thergaon, where medical tests confirmed alcohol consumption. “Our investigation is on,” he added. An officer from Pimpri Chinchwad police said, “We will submit a report to the RTO for the suspension of the driver’s licence.”
