Cop, 6 others booked for cheating youth on pretext of job in Saudi

Lucknow: A constable, currently posted in Ayodhya, along with 6 other persons have been booked for cheating an Ambedkarnagar youth of Rs 1.5 lakh on the pretext of sending him to Saudi Arabia for employment and subjecting him to physical harassment.The case was registered following the intervention of a local court.

According to the complaint by Hamtunnisha of Alahdadpur village in Tanda tehsil of Ambedkarnagar, her son Jafar was approached for a driver’s job in Saudi Arabia Shabbir, Tahir, Manzoor Alam, Hassan and Ramzan in 2024. The accused allegedly collected a total of Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from Jafar’s father, Rais, and sent the youth abroad without any valid licence or legal documentation. Once in Saudi Arabia, Jafar was allegedly held captive, assaulted, and kept without food and water for five days. He reportedly managed to return to India only after another Indian national, Rajesh Yadav, intervened and helped pay a security penalty to secure his release. The victim’s family alleged that upon returning home and demanding their money back, they were assaulted by the accused. In Sept 2025, when the family approached the local police station to lodge a complaint, constable Haseeb Siddiqui allegedly abused them verbally and drove them away. The police allegedly filed a challan against victim Jafar instead of taking action against the accused. The family later approached the court, which directed cops to lodge FIR against constable Haseeb Siddiqui, Sadre Alam and the other agents, confirmed circle officer (Tanda) Shubham Kumar.
