Panaji: In the PIL concerning road safety along the Porvorim elevated corridor project, the high court told the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to continue monitoring pollution along the site.Petitioner-in-person advocate Moses Pinto on Thursday told the HC that the air î –quality index (AQI) was deteriorating in the area, which impacted the health and lives of people.
The project spewed huge amounts of dust, and smog formation reduced visibility for motorists and impacted judgement on the road, Pinto said, adding that the GSPCB was already on record in its inspection report on Oct 25, 2024, that the contractor did not comply with important considerations to control dust pollution.Govt told the court that resurfacing of 90% of the project length was carried out and that sprinkling of water was also carried out.State submitted to the HC that installation of AQI was not within the scope of the contractor, to which Pinto sought directions to the GSPCB to monitor dust pollution. The court asked the board to look into the issue.
