Bengaluru: An assistant police constable chased and caught a chain snatcher with the help of passersby, and recovered a gold chain worth Rs 6 lakh from him.The incident occurred on Feb 5 evening at Hampinagar, Vijayanagar, north Bengaluru, when the miscreant, Syed Jaffer Pasha, 20, attacked a woman near her house and started running with her chain. The woman shouted for help and on hearing her, assistant constable Hanumanta Putani chased the thief, asking passersby to join him.Putani, attached to City Armed Reserve (CAR), was heading home after night shift when the incident occurred. “After chasing him for around 800 metres, Putani managed to grab him by the shirt collar. As the thief fell, other residents held onto him firmly,” a senior police officer said.Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh congratulated Putani Tuesday for catching the chain snatcher.
