Kanpur: A constable attacked his wife and their three-year-old daughter with an axe after an argument in Banda. The child succumbed to injuries, while the wife is critically ill. After the attack, the accused left his wife and daughter at home and fled. His mobile phone was found near the river about 400 metres from the house, leading police to suspect he may have jumped into the river. Police investigation revealed that the accused took his wife and daughter to the fair at Marka on Makar Sankranti on Wednesday. After returning home at night, the couple argued over some issue, following which heattacked both with an axe. Hearing the screams, neighbours reached the spot and saw the duo lying in a pool of blood. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared the child dead, while the woman was referred to Kanpur in a critical condition. Originally from Farrukhabad, constable Gaurav Kumar Yadav (35) had been posted at Marka police station in Banda for the past 1-and-a-half years. He took a rented house just 250 metres away from the police station. He lived there with his wife, Shivani (32), and their only daughter, Pari (3). The constable returned home with his family late in the evening. During this time, an argument broke out with his wife over some issue. The dispute escalated so much that the accused constable lost his temper and made frenzied attacks on his wife and Pari with an axe kept in the house. In the attack, both mother and daughter fell down, covered in blood. DSP Saurabh Singh said Yadav, posted as a driver in UP 112, attacked his wife and daughter due to a family discord.
