Varanasi: Scores of Congress leaders and workers trying to reach Gurudham temple to see idols, including that of Indore’s queen Ahilyabai Holker, were stopped by the police on Saturday afternoon.Congress city president Raghavendra Chaubey said that after the district administration claimed that the idols and remains from Manikarnika Ghat were kept safely in Gurudham temple after demolition, they planned a visit to verify it. He said that when office-bearers of the district and city Congress committee went peacefully to Gurudham temple, they were stopped by the police. Party leaders, including Chaubey, state spokesperson Sanjeev Singh, Satnam Singh, City President Youth Congress Chanchal Sharma, Pramod Verma, Dheeraj Sonkar, Santosh Chaurasiya, Afsar Khan, Narsingh Verma, Khalid Siddiqui and Imam Raja, were taken to Bhelupur police station and later released. tnn
