BENGALURU: The death by suicide of Confident Group chairman CJ Roy has placed the Karnataka government under scrutiny over the course of the investigation, even as it constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the circumstances surrounding his death.Key questions now focus on how far the investigation should go — specifically, whether claims made by Roy’s brother, CJ Babu, warrant action against income tax officials, or whether the allegations should be examined with caution.

What the autopsy report said

Doctors from Bowring Hospital who conducted the autopsy said Roy died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Medical superintendent Dr M N Aravind said a 6.35mm bullet pierced the left side of Roy’s chest, scattered the heart and stomach, and stopped near the ribs at the back. The bullet did not exit the body, he said. “There were no other injuries on the body. According to our findings, Roy died of a bullet wound,” Dr Aravind said. He added that Roy was holding the pistol in his right hand. Forensic Science Laboratory experts are examining his palm and fingers for traces of gunpowder. Blood samples have also been sent for DNA analysis, he said. Police said Roy used an Austria-made pistol to kill himself.
