Complaints rising, Ghaziabad DM forms team to free up government land

Ghaziabad: Acting on repeated complaints of illegal occupation of govt land in Loni, DM Ravindra Mander set up a joint committee of police and administrative officers to crack down on encroachers and land mafia operating in the area.“Under no circumstances will land mafia or illegal encroachers be allowed to flourish in Loni. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” the DM said, directing officials to respond swiftly to public grievances. The decision was taken during a public grievance meeting at the collectorate Monday, where the DM noted a steady rise in complaints related to encroachments, received both during public hearings and through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System. Following this, Mander directed the police commissioner to form a joint committee. The committee comprises the additional district magistrate (Land Acquisition), the sub-divisional magistrate, the Loni assistant commissioner of police, ACP of Ankur Vihar and ACP of Wave City. The team was directed to take immediate action on complaints, conduct site inspections and ensure time-bound resolution of land-related disputes. The DM said the administration would crack down on habitual offenders. “FIRs will be registered against repeat offenders as it is seen that in some cases the same individuals are repeatedly involved in illegal occupation of govt land or are harassing small landholders by showing power or using force,” Mander told TOI. SDM Deepak Singhanwal said the complaints of encroachment on govt land will be resolved on priority. “Inquiries will be conducted into personal land dispute complaints as these require hearing both sides,” he added.
