Gurgaon: A 37-year-old man, owner of a Jammu-based firm, was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing II (EOW II) of the city police for allegedly cheating his business partners of over Rs 67.7 lakh by luring them with a partnership, shutting down the company, and absconding after selling its machinery and goods.The accused, Mithun (37), a resident of Dashmesh Nagar in Jammu district, was arrested in Palava City, Maharashtra, on Sunday. He ran a firm named Nascent Company that dealt in plastic crates.
According to police, the case dates back to a complaint registered on Nov 26, 2024, at Kherki Daula police station, following an investigation by EOW II. City-based businessmen Sandeep Kumar and Rajesh Kumar alleged that Mithun lured them to invest Rs 67 lakh by offering them a partnership in Nascent Company. Both were formally made partners of the busines s in 2021, but were neither given any role in business operations nor any share in profits. Things went worse when Mithun abruptly went missing after shutting down the firm in 2022. According to police, Mithun admitted to the crime and said he was also running another firm, dealing with fruit supply, in Palava City.He was produced before a local court on Monday and was remanded to one day’s police custody. “An interrogation is underway to identify possible associates, recover the defrauded amount, seize relevant documents and probe his involvement in other cases,” Sandeep Kumar, police spokesperson, Gurgaon, said.
