Kanpur: Five properties worth Rs 9.5 crore of Vinod Agrawal, an accused in the Codeine-cough syrup case, were sealed in different parts of the city on Thursday under the NDPS Act.The action was carried out in the presence of ACP Cantt Aakanksha Pandey, crime branch inspector Kamalapati Yadav.Vinod’s properties in Gopal Vihar of Civil Lines, Birhana Road, Rampuram of Daheli Sujanpur, and Emerald Gulistan Phase 2 in Jajmau were seized. These properties were seized earlier also by Sarnath police of Varanasi Commissionerate.DCP Crime Shravan Kumar Singh said the investigation revealed that Vinod Agrawal and his son Shivam Agrawal used to order codeine-containing cough syrup from eight companies in Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Around 36,000 codeine-containing cough syrups from the city were sold to 47 firms, and police were investigating whether these firms were fake or genuine.DCP Crime Shravan Kumar Singh said a team of 50 police personnel has been assigned the task to match the medicines and cough syrup bottles. Codeine-containing cough syrup was supplied from the city to Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, West Bengal and other districts of the state, he said, adding that the names of firms from Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh emerged the most, and the consignments were also sent to Shravasti, Varanasi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gorakhpur, Gonda and other districts.
