“But now after CM Yogiji’s efforts and the surgery my daughter has gradually started speaking and hearing,” said her mother Geeta Gupta, a resident of Gwaltoli. Her father Kallu said Khushi went missing on Nov 22. “We searched for her but couldn’t find her anywhere. Late evening, police called up saying my daughter is with Lucknow police,” he said adding that Khushi had left home without informing anyone and travelled 90Km by train to reach Lucknow. When she was found crying outside the CM’s residence, police took her to the station and, with the help of Kanpur police, contacted her family. “Khushi told the police through scratch art and gestures that she wanted to meet Yogi ji. When this information reached the CM, he called her to Lucknow on Nov 26. The CM ordered arrangements for her education, hearing device and housing for the family,” Kallu said. On Dec 5, surgery was performed on one of her ears, but there was no success. After this, Dr Rohit Mehrotra of a city-based hospital said Khushi needed a cochlear implant. Khushi was then treated on the Chief Minister’s instructions, and on Jan 26, her cochlear implant surgery was successfully performed. Dr Mehrotra said: “Khushi has now started hearing. She is trying to speak in broken words. As she hears the pronunciation of words, she will try to speak. She is being given speech therapy. She would start speaking completely in 3 to 4 months.” A video of Khushi, who wants to become a police officer, is going viral in which she can be heard thanking Yogi ji. She has made some paintings of CM Yogi which she plans to gift him.
