New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday laid out an ambitious to-do list for Delhi’s future, announcing initiatives that ranged from the complete electrification of the public bus fleet and a large-scale Metro expansion to major investments in health, education, infrastructure and social welfare. She was addressing the state-level Republic Day ceremony at Chhatrasal Stadium.After unfurling the national flag and taking the salute at the parade, Guota said Delhi is moving steadily towards becoming “viksit” in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision 2047. She said her govt’s aim is to convert Delhi’s entire public transport bus fleet to electric in three years. About 11,000 electric buses will be made available, and these vehicles will be supported by new charging stations and bus depots.
The metro network will be expanded to 500 km, with the budget increased to Rs 5,000 crore. Last-mile connectivity will be strengthened through e-buses, e-autos and e-taxis.Presenting her govt’s 11-month report card, she said capital expenditure for 2025-26 has been doubled, underlining the strong focus on infrastructure. She listed projects such as the Dwarka Expressway, Urban Extension Road-2, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, and the construction of flyovers, underpasses and elevated roads as key steps to decongest the city. Under the Safe City Project, 10,000 new CCTV cameras and 1 lakh smart LED street lights will be installed across Delhi.She highlighted health as a core priority that would follow the 3-A model — advanced, affordable and accessible healthcare. She said new hospital blocks, critical care units and public health laboratories are being made, while over 300 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are already operational. More than 1 crore ABHA IDs were created, and online OPD services were launched. Under Ayushman Bharat and the Vay Vandana scheme, 6 lakh registrations were completed and 20,000 patients had already benefited, the CM said. Recruitment of doctors, nurses and paramedics, along with the addition of ambulances and dialysis machines, is also under way.On education, she said 21% of the 2025-26 budget has been allocated. She highlighted the implementation of the Delhi School Education Act, 2025, to curb arbitrary fee hikes in private schools, and said smart classrooms, digital libraries, laboratories and sports facilities are being developed in govt schools. An ultra-modern education hub is being built in Narela for Rs 1,300 crore, while scholarships and free laptops are being provided to meritorious students.Outlining welfare initiatives, Gupta said 50 Atal Canteens are providing meals at rs 5 to over 50,000 people daily, with a target of reaching 1 lakh beneficiaries. She said Rs 700 crore has been allocated for development work in jhuggi-jhopri clusters, covering basic civic infrastructure.
