CM unveiles two books by Harichandan

Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday unveiled two significant literary works by former Governor Bishwabhushan Harichandan — the Odia book “E Mati Katha Kahe” and the English historical account “Buxi Jagabandhu: The Great Commander”— at a ceremony held here.During the launch, the CM hailed Harichandan as a “pride of Odisha” whose principles and lifelong service left an indelible mark on Indian politics. Majhi emphasised that the author’s transition from an eminent lawyer to the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh reflected a life dedicated to constitutional values and public welfare.Majhi lauded the book on Buxi Jagabandhu, noting that it shed light on the armed Paika Rebellion of 1817—a struggle that predated the 1857 sepoy mutiny by 40 years. The CM reaffirmed the state’s push for national recognition of this event as India’s First War of Independence. In the meantime, for the Odia book “E Mati Katha Kahe”, he said this work featured 30 diverse essays covering Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, world peace, and the Jagannath Nabakalebara Yatra. The chief minister recalled Harichandan’s imprisonment during the Emergency to protect democracy, citing him as an inspiration for the youth. Majhi expressed hope for an English translation of the Odia work to ensure global reach for Odisha’s rich national identity and heritage. The CM concluded by likening Harichandan’s uncompromising nature to Buxi Jagabandhu and his dedication to public service to Gopabandhu, praying to Lord Sri Jagannath for the veteran leader’s health.
