Lucknow: In a veiled attack on Samajwadi Party leaders on Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that everyone was aware of how serious “babua” used to be about the education of poor children during his regime. During a scholarship distribution programme at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the CM said, “Babua used to wake up at 12 noon. Due to nepotism and corruption, the benefits of govt schemes did not reach the needy in the past.” Yogi transferred nearly Rs 945 crore in the form of scholarships and fee reimbursements to the accounts of 18.79 lakh students. Through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) process, he said the govt ensured that assistance reached beneficiaries ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. “Earlier, scholarship schemes and the fee reimbursement process were mired in corruption and controversies. Through transparent DBT, the money is now reaching beneficiaries without delay or discrimination,” he said. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the UP CM said the objective of the state govt was to reach out to backward and deprived social groups to ensure that no vulnerable student was left out. “A student who availed a scholarship recently became a computer assistant in UPRVUNL (UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited), inspiring many more women to join government services,” he said. Highlighting the success of Operation Kayakalp, Yogi said the condition of schools and educational institutions had improved significantly under the programme. He added that the benefits of social security schemes were being provided to lakhs of senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable individuals in the state on a monthly basis.
