Civic mess found in many wards, Khanna tells officials to act on it

Lucknow: Lapses were found in sanitation, drainage and maintenance of civic facilities during an inspection of several wards in Hazratganj, Lalbagh and nearby areas on Friday.The inspection was carried out by finance and parliamentary affairs minister and Lucknow in-charge minister, Suresh Khanna, along with mayor Sushma Kharakwal.

During the inspection of Vikramaditya-Mahatma Gandhi ward, covering Yojana Bhawan, Diamond Dairy and Udayganj areas, poor drain cleaning and rubbish was found on roads.Officials were directed to ensure immediate cleaning and strengthen regular monitoring. In the Diamond Dairy-Udayganj area, debris and waste dumped on roads led to instructions for imposing fines on those responsible, with emphasis on strict enforcement of cleanliness norms.At the Diamond Dairy pumping station area, officials were instructed to clear a vacant plot filled with debris and impose a penalty on the owner.In Babu Banarasi Das ward, directions were issued for repair of Haider canal’s retaining wall and regular cleaning around the canal.In Lalkuan ward, Khanna directed officials to relocate drinking water pipelines running through drains to safer locations. Instructions were issued to ensure proper drain cleaning and timely rubbish collection. The area councillor flagged delays in the handover of sanitation work to the designated agency, following which officials were asked to resolve the matter.In Nazarbagh ward, Khanna ordered deduction of two days’ salary of the zonal officer and subordinate staff for negligence in sanitation arrangements in the Sundarbagh area.At JC Bose ward, officials were directed to ensure thorough drain cleaning, construction of public urinals and regular sewer maintenance.Khanna said the city, being a historic and important city, cannot afford negligence in sanitation, drainage and civic services. He warned of strict action against erring officials.Kharakwal said providing a clean, safe and healthy environment to residents remains the top priority.
