City judokas hit gold at SGFI U-19 School Games

Chandigarh: Two Chandigarh judokas won gold medals at the 69th SGFI U-19 School Games under way in Delhi from Feb 1 to 4.Aarti, 17, clinched the gold medal in the –48 kg category — her first national title — after a strong run of bouts. In the semifinals, she defeated Gujarat’s Rahi, a world No. 5 and three-time Asian gold medallist, with a hold-down technique. She repeated the move in the final to beat her Delhi rival and secure the top podium finish.

In the –60 kg category, 18-year-old Kapil Damai secured gold, his second national medal in 20 days. He had earlier won the title at the Junior National Judo Championship 2025-26 in Kolkata, continuing his strong competitive form.The Chandigarh contingent was accompanied by team official Jyotsna, a teacher with the UT education department and a former national champion. Both medallists train under international coach Vivek Thakur at the Sector 34 Sports Complex.Thakur said the results reflected the athletes’ disciplined preparation and exposure to high-level training.
