Kanpur: Monday was unusually warm with both maximum and minimum temperatures going above normal. However, don’t ditch the layers just yet as evenings and nights are expected to be colder in the coming days.According to IMD, Kanpur Nagar’s minimum temperature stood at 8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 notches above normal. The maximum temperature climbed to 26 degrees C, about 5.4°C higher than the seasonal average. With relative humidity peaking at 95% and north-westerly winds blowing at around 2 kmph, fog was observed during the morning and evening hours. Weather expert Sunil Pandey of CSA University said that night temperatures across Uttar Pradesh, including the Kanpur division, are likely to fluctuate by 1–3 degrees C in the coming days. Pollution levels combined with fog may continue to affect visibility during the morning and evening hours. While rainfall is unlikely in the Kanpur division, isolated drizzle cannot be ruled out. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday indicated the development of a new weather system, stating that rainfall is likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh under the influence of an upcoming western disturbance. The IMD also cautioned that cold days and chilly conditions may intensify again once the system passes.According to the IMD, the western disturbance is expected to become active between Jany 19 and 21, leading to a change in weather conditions across the state. From Jan 22 to 25, cloudy skies and light rainfall are likely in both western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated places on Jan 23 and 24, while gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph may prevail during this period.
