Churachandpur shut to mourn Valte’s death

Churachandpur: The town of Churachandpur observed a complete shutdown on Tuesday as thousands bid farewell to Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a mob attack in Imphal on May 4, 2023.The 24-hour shutdown, called by the Zomi Students’ Federation and other organisations, saw shops, institutions, and govt offices closed. Exemptions were made for examinations, medical emergencies, and media services.

Valte’s body, transported from Delhi, was taken in procession through Singngat and Churachandpur, where gun salutes and tributes were offered along the way. State governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Jiribam MLA Achan Uddin also paid their respects.
