Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court has directed the Uttar Pradesh govt to crack down on the use of Chinese manjha, emphasizing that it is bound to follow previous orders of the court passed in this regard. The court asked the state to ensure that manufacturing, sale, and use of Chinese manjha are stopped to prevent harm to humans and birds, especially during the peak kite-flying season. With this order, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Kshitij Shailendra on Wednesday disposed of the PIL filed by Himanshu Srivastava and two others seeking complete ban on Chinese manjha. This petition was filed for seeking a direction to the respondents to take proper steps to prohibit use, sale and manufacturing of Chinese manjha in any form and decide the representation pending before them. The PIL referenced a previous court order from Nov 19, 2015, directing the state government to take steps to ban Chinese manjha. The earlier order had instructed the government to enforce the ban on manufacturing, sale, and use of Chinese manjha to prevent harm. The court had also issued orders in other related petitions, besides the Nov 19, 2015, order, highlighting the need to address the Chinese manjha issue. The high court observed that filing another petition wouldn’t serve much purpose, given the existing orders and pending cases on the issue.Hence, the high court disposed of the present PIL after issuing the above-mentioned directives.
