Chimbel locals firm on ‘notification’ demand

Panaji: Chimbel residents continued their chain hunger strike, demanding that the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) relocate Unity Mall and Prashaasan Stambh. The residents were on their 35th day of hunger strike. They said that it was essential that govt issued a notification with a detailed explanation in a correct legal and administrative manner.Ajay Kolekar of RG said, “We told our demands to the North Goa collector on Friday, but so far we didn’t hear anything from them. A notice from the tourism department is not the correct channel of communication. They don’t have any power or constitutional role to declare this to us.”Citing a letter issued by the IT department, villagers said that survey no. 40 of Chimbel was earlier owned by the IT department and was transferred to the general administration department for construction of Prashaasan Stambh.“The chief minister should convene a meeting and instruct GTDC chairperson and secretary to shift both projects, along with the time and date, and reinstate the destroyed area,” Kolekar said.
