GUWAHATI: A 12-year-old girl, employed as a child labour, has been rescued from Guwahati’s Panjabari area.The operation was carried out on Sunday night by the District Labour Task Force (DLTF), Assam Centre for Rural Development and police personnel from Dispur PS.

The operation carried based on information about the illegal employment of a child at a residence. Officials said the child was found in a poor physical and mental condition, with bruises pointing towards prolonged neglect and abuse.“The employers’ have been identified as Amarin Akhtar Lashkar and Baharul Haque Lashkar. The minor was working as a domestic help for the past six years,” an official from the DLTF said.During the operation, the employer initially denied that any child from Silchar was present in the house and refused to cooperate with the authorities. Despite their denial, a thorough search was conducted, and the child was found hidden in a box under the bed, in an attempt to evade detection by officials.Dispur police have registered a case against the employer. Meanwhile, the child was taken into protective custody and provided medical exam, counselling and rehabilitation support.
