Chennai youths shoot reels at Ashok Nagar murder house after 17 yrs

Chennai: At least 17 years after the sensational triple murder of former Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited managing director Saravanan, his wife Kasthuri, a retired deputy secretary in the Home Department, and their maid Anbarasi, at Ashok Nagar, youngsters barged into the crime scene, shot videos, and uploaded them on social media. A retired police officer who was part of the original investigation team said it was unethical to barge into a crime scene and tamper with clues and evidence. The CBI had resumed investigation last year, 17 years after the murders rocked the state. The murder took place on Nov 20, 2008. On Nov 20, 2008, Saravanan, his wife Kasthuri, a retired deputy secretary in the Home Department, and their maid Anbarasi were found murdered at their bungalow at K K Nagar.Based on a complaint by Unni Krishnan, a junior assistant in TAMIN who discovered the bodies, K K Nagar police registered a case. There was no progress in the investigation until 2010, when a public interest litigation was filed in the Madras High Court. The court gave an ultimatum to the state govt that the case would be transferred to the CB-CID if the killers were not found.K K Nagar police then arrested four people — Udaya alias Udayakumar of Ashok Nagar, N Mohandas of Mugalivakkam, Sathiyabhama (Mohandas’ wife), and Mohammed Yasin of Velachery. A fast-track court found them guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The fate of diamonds, precious stones, and gold found in the house, the contents of bank lockers, and properties in the name of Saravanan, who was known for collecting precious stones, remains unknown.
