Chennai triple murder: Bihar couple, son murdered; bodies dumped in different locations

CHENNAI: The city police on Wednesday stumbled into a shocking triple murder while probing the mystery behind an abandoned sack containing the body of a guest worker on Jan 26. The body was found on the roadside in an upscale neighbourhood in Adyar. Now, it turns out that the guest worker Gaurav Kumar’s wife Minukumari and son Birmani Kumar too had been murdered and their bodies dumped at different locations in the vicinity. While the child’s body was recovered from the Buckingham Canal in Adyar, the woman’s body is yet to be traced. A total of five people, all natives of Bihar, have been arrested in connection with the murders.Police said Gaurav Kumar of Nalanda district in Bihar was a security guard at a private company in Sriperumbudur, for the past two years. On Jan 21, he, along with his wife Minukumari and son Birmani Kumar, returned from a trip to Bihar and moved to the city seeking a job.Through contacts in his hometown, he approached Krishna Prasad, 60, who is also from Bihar and who worked as a security guard and lived with his family in Taramani. Krishna Prasad introduced Gaurav Kumar to several acquaintances from Bihar who were employed as security guards in nearby buildings. Gaurav Kumar and his family stayed at Krishna Prasad’s house and in other residences where migrant workers from Bihar lived, while he searched for a job.On Jan 25, during a drinking session with another security guard Sikander, 33, and his four friends, a fight erupted during which Gaurav Kumar was attacked first. When Minukumari attempted to flee with her son, the gang attacked them with an iron rod. Both Minukumari and Birmani Kumar died on the spot. In order to divert police attention, Sikander and his associates wrapped Gaurav Kumar’s body in a sack and dumped it in front of a two-wheeler showroom in Indira Nagar First Avenue. Police have secured CCTV camera footage showing how two suspects transported the body on a two-wheeler, placing it between the rider and the pillion before dumping it.The child’s body was dumped amidst bushes along the Buckingham Canal near Madhya Kailash, while Minukumari’s body was wrapped in a sack and dumped in a garbage bin near the Indira Nagar MRTS station.
