Bhubaneswar: The Chandrasekharpur fire station in the city will undergo a major transformation with the Odisha fire and emergency service (OFES) directorate planning to develop it as a model unit.OFES director general Sudhansu Sarangi announced the initiative on Sunday, highlighting the fire station’s strategic importance and its role in safeguarding densely populated areas.Located near prominent schools, hospitals and bustling business centres, the station receives a high volume of fire and emergency calls. “Considering its importance, we have started working to make it a model station,” Sarangi said. The upgrade aims to enhance both the efficiency and professionalism of the staff, ensuring quicker and more effective responses during crises.The plan includes equipping the station with advanced fire and rescue technology and deploying additional skilled personnel. Staff will undergo specialised training to strengthen their ability to handle disaster situations with precision.Beyond operational improvements, the station premises will be redesigned to create a modern and functional environment. Campus beautification initiatives are also on the agenda, with the addition of an open gym to promote fitness and well-being among firefighters.Officials envision the Chandrasekharpur fire station as a benchmark for other units across Odisha. “Once completed, it will serve as a training and demonstration hub, where officers from within the state and beyond can observe its procedures and learn from its practices,” Sarangi said.He said that the model station is expected to inspire similar upgrades across the fire service network, raising the overall standard of emergency response in Odisha.Sarangi said that by combining state-of-the-art equipment, skilled manpower and a focus on staff welfare, the Chandrasekharpur fire station may set an example in disaster preparedness and public safety.
