Agartala: The ministry of health and family welfare on Wednesday announced the establishment of a 50-bed critical care block at Dhalai District Hospital under the PM-ABHIM scheme, aimed at improving medical accessibility in Tripura’s tribal areas.Officials said the project, estimated at Rs 23.75 crore, is intended to bring advanced healthcare closer to residents of Dhalai district and reduce the need for long-distance travel for critical treatment.
The state govt has been pursuing the project to reduce dependence on distant medical centres, with the initiative focused on expanding access to quality healthcare services at the district level.CM Manik Saha, who also holds the health portfolio, said the facility is “not just an infrastructural upgrade but a transformative step in healthcare delivery at the district level.” He said the block will strengthen services including trauma care, cardiac treatment and management of other serious illnesses.The CM said the new facility will help ensure patients do not need referrals to Agartala for urgent or critical care. He expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Union health minister J P Nadda for supporting the project, and said their efforts reflect a commitment to expanding healthcare access in Tripura’s tribal areas.
