Gandhinagar: The population census in Gujarat will be held in two phases, with the house listing operations (HLO) phase scheduled to begin in April-May this year, while the 2nd phase will involve population enumeration, the govt informed on Tuesday. Citizens will be able to fill in their information online as part of HLO operations, the govt said.Chief secretary M K Das, who chaired a meeting on the programme in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, said the Population Census 2027 will establish benchmarks in accuracy, transparency, and digital governance. He added that the 2027 census is crucial, as these statistics will be necessary for every policy decision for comprehensive development.
For the first time, a digital self-enumeration facility will be introduced in the house listing phase, aiming to involve citizens actively and make them important stakeholders in this task.Director of Census Operations, Gujarat, Sujal Mayatra, said the upcoming 2027 census is particularly special, as it is taking place in an era of data-driven, technology-enabled governance. The meeting reviewed various aspects of the HLO phase, including preparing a detailed list of houses, residential units and households, along with planning, training, and the facility of digital self-enumeration.
