Cash stolen from CTU branch sent to Sonipat, cops in pursuit

Times News NetworkChandigarh: A new revelation has emerged in the case of Rs 13 lakh theft at the CTU’s cash branch in the Sector 17 bus stand. Police sources revealed that the arrested accused, CTU sub-inspector Ved Pal, sent the stolen money to Sonipat through his nephew. The UT crime branch team has left for Sonipat. A day earlier, the crime branch team arrested Ved Pal, 45, sub-inspector of CTU, and his nephew Prashant, who is originally from Sonipat district in Haryana and was residing in Sector-27, Chandigarh, in the case. The accused works in the CTU workshop located in Industrial Area, Phase-1.The complainant, Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Zirakpur (Mohali), works as a cashier in the CTU department. He is currently posted at the depot-11 cash branch, Industrial Area Phase-1 and has additional charge of the ISBT-17 cash branch. He said that around 8am on Tuesday, he received a call from CTU inspector Ravinder Singh, who informed him about the robbery at the cash branch.Investigation revealed that security guard Gaurav Rawat was on duty in room number 83, ISBT-17, where the cash branch is located, during the night shift from 10pm to 6am. According to the security guard, around 3:30am, a man wearing something similar to a police uniform, with his face covered, came and claimed to be a police officer. He said he wanted to investigate alleged illegal activities in the record room and mentioned the names of officers posted there.Gaurav Rawat let him in and on his instructions, took out the record room key and opened the door. Thereafter, the accused locked Rawat in the record room and went to the cash branch, where he stole approximately Rs 13,13,710 cash using the locker key and fled.The incident came to light at 4:30am, when conductor Sushila Devi arrived for duty. She found the cash branch doors open and freed the locked security guard. Following this, Pradeep Kumar filed a complaint at the Sector 17 police station. MSID:: 127798874 413 |
