Noida: A traffic police constable was injured after a car driver allegedly tried to run over him in Greater Noida’s Sector P3 while he was managing traffic at the busy roundabout on Wednesday afternoon, police said.Police said congestion had built up at the intersection and constable Gurmeet Chaudhary, who was deployed at the spot, was halting traffic intermittently to ease vehicular movement.According to the complaint, a red Hyundai car with an Uttar Pradesh registration approached the roundabout at high speed around 2.30pm. The driver allegedly ignored repeated signals to stop and began abusing the constable, claiming he was in a hurry. When Chaudhary attempted to stop the vehicle near Army Welfare Housing Organisation’s (AWHO) residential project, the driver allegedly rammed the car into him, causing the constable to land on the bonnet.Police said the driver continued to drive for around 400 to 500 metres with the constable clinging to the front of the vehicle, despite his cries for help. The car eventually stopped, allowing the constable to get down. He sustained injuries but was reported to be in a stable condition.An FIR has been registered against the unidentified driver under sections 281 (rash driving), 121 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the BNS.Police officials said that CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the vehicle and trace the accused.
