Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old businessman was allegedly run over by a car on NDRF Road in Kavi Nagar on Tuesday evening. Police said an investigation is underway and they are tracing the accused driver.According to police, Rishi Chauhan, a resident of the Kailashpuram area in Kavi Nagar who owns an organic fertiliser manufacturingplant in Raeespur, had gotten out of his car to buy peanuts around 7.30pm on Tuesday when he was run over by a grey Honda City. The accused driver immediately fled the spot and left his car behind. Passersby rushed Chauhan to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment after sustaining multiple fractures in the collision.A video of the incident, accessed by TOI, shows the accused’s car taking a turn and suddenly ramming into Chauhan, trapping him under the vehicle. While the driver flees the scene, passersby rush to drag Chauhan out from under the car.Police said the initial investigation led to prime accused Ayush Tewatiya, a resident of Sadarpur. The accused’s vehicle has been seized and an FIR will soon be registered in the case.Chauhan’s family, however, reported a conflicting account of the incident in their police complaint. They alleged that Tewatiya held a long-time enmity against Chauhan and had threatened him before. They also alleged that after running Chauhan over, Tewatiya and two others got out of the car and thrashed him while threatening to kill him.“The investigation revealed that no fight took place and only one accused was present in the car. We have received the complaint from Rishi’s family, and we will lodge an FIR in the matter,” said ACP (Kavi Nagar) Suryabali Maurya.
