Ahmedabad: A 34-year-old fabricator from Vastrapur lodged a complaint on Sunday after unidentified burglars broke into his apartment and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 97,000 while the family was away for a function.Priyank Patel, a resident of Suvas Apartment near JG International School on Gulab Tower Road, told police that he ran an aluminium fabrication business from home. On Feb 15, around 2.30pm, he, along with his father, mother and younger brother, locked their flat and left for a family function in Bhadaj.When Priyank and his brother returned around 5pm, they found the iron grill lock of the main door broken and the wooden door ajar. On entering the house, they saw that the cupboard locker in the bedroom was locked, but the key was left inserted. On opening it, they found the contents ransacked.The stolen items included Rs 7,000 in cash, a 10-gram gold chain worth Rs 30,000, two pairs of gold earrings weighing around 5g worth Rs 15,000, 2 gold rings weighing about 10g worth Rs 15,000, a silver ornament valued at Rs 20,000, four silver coins worth Rs 5,000 and imitation jewellery worth Rs 5,000. Police were alerted through the control room, and a team reached the spot. A case was registered at Vastrapur police station.
