Varanasi: Bansdih police in Ballia district arrested a notorious burglar following an exchange of fire in the Mahua area on the Bansdih–Sarangpur road late on Monday night.Providing details of the late-night action, Ballia Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Dinesh Kumar Shukla on Tuesday said, “During night patrolling on the Bansdih–Sarangpur road, the Bansdih police station team noticed a suspicious motorcycle-borne person in the Mahua area and signalled him to stop. However, on seeing the police, he tried to escape by accelerating the vehicle, but his motorcycle slipped and he fell onto the road.”He opened fire at the police and attempted to flee, the ASP said, adding that in retaliatory action, he sustained a bullet injury to his leg and. The cops recovered a stolen motorcycle, a pistol, and cartridges before rushing him to a hospital. The accused was identified as Dilip Sahni (31) of Bansdih. During interrogation, he said that he had stolen a motorcycle and Rs 10,000 cash from one Pawan Kumar on Feb 11 and admitted to being involved in several other theft cases previously. tnn
