Ludhiana: City’s building branch is under fire following fresh allegations of illegal construction and official collusion. Resident Tribhuvan Thapar reported a four-storey commercial building in Chaura Bazaar constructed over a drain without approved plans or fire safety certificates. Thapar alleges municipal corporation (MC) officials facilitated the project, posing a significant public safety risk.Separately, activist Kuldeep Singh Khaira flagged six shop-cum-offices on Main Canal Road for encroaching on public roads. Khaira accused officials of rushing completion certificates to bypass a pending chief vigilance officer’s inquiry into illegal basement clubbing. While activists demand accountability for “deliberate obstruction”, municipal town planner Vijay Kumar claimed ignorance of the complaints, stating he must verify the cases with subordinates before commenting.
