Panaji: Before handing over letters of appointment to new recruits in the accounts department, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that those new employees who worked in the private sector earlier should help bring innovative practices from the corporate sector into their govt service.“You were selected on a merit basis. You should also deliver services to match that merit. Many may have worked in the private sector before being appointed to this govt job. See how you can bring the same practices and innovation here as in the corporate sector. The work should be carried out as promptly as in corporate service,” the CM said, after handing out the letters of appointment to 21 new recruits, selected through the Staff Selection Commission.“The commission is carrying out new recruitments in a timely manner. You were all selected and will be given a posting soon. You will complete training in a few days. You should make sure that you understand govt service rules. Once you sit on the chair, you should not become arrogant. At times, you can tend to feel like you are a big officer sitting on a chair. You are not an officer; you are a servant, and you are there to serve the people,” the chief minister told the new employees who were present with their families.Goa chief secretary V Candavelou, who was present, also told the new recruits to discharge their duties in the public interest.“You came through a rigorous, transparent, merit-based recruitment system. So the govt is expecting a lot from you. You should discharge your duties in the public interest. You will be the eyes and ears. You will be the watchdog on the financial side,” he said.
