Bowring Institute secretary files complaint over threats

Bengaluru: Bowring Institute management lodged a complaint with cyber police stating some unknown persons were sending abusive and threatening messages using VPN (virtual private networks) and making calls from abroad.A complaint was lodged by institute secretary HS Srikanth, who also approached police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh. Srikanth said the callers were hiding their identity by using international sim cards.Preliminary probe revealed said the calls were being made at the behest of a few former club members who had been disqualified on various grounds in the past. “Some of these persons had approached the court seeking cancellation of their disqualification,” Srikanth said. In April last year, the court dismissed their petitions and upheld the decision of disqualification. From then, the miscreants started making random calls to other members, including women, the complaint said. An FIR has been registered.
