Varanasi: The district court was on high alert after a bomb threat email was received by the judge around 1.30 am, sparking panic.Central Bar president Premprakash Singh Gautam said the judge called bar leaders to his chamber, revealing the bomb threat email. In view of the threat, cases were rescheduled, and the court premises was cleared as a precaution. UP Police is coordinating with central intelligence agencies to trace the source of the e-mails and determine whether the threats were part of a coordinated attempt to create panic.
Taking prompt action, a team led by DCP Pramod Kumar and Cantt inspector Shivakant Mishra led a search operation with the bomb squad. Advocates also started checking chambers for suspicious items. The bomb squad swept the court premises, joined by a heavy police presence, but nothing suspicious was found. Security checks were also conducted at Cantt railway station, covering counters, gates, and platforms.Four district court complexes in Uttar Pradesh — in Lucknow, Mirzapur, Varanasi and Ayodhya — received bomb threat e-mails, triggering panic and prompting large-scale security checks across the state. Officials said the threatening e-mails claimed that explosive devices had been planted inside the court premises.
