Kolkata: The Election Commission has introduced the 17th feature in the BLO app in the last phase of the SIR hearing. The new feature — Upload Hearing Photo and Attendance— records the details of the electors appearing before EC officials and helps address their ‘logical discrepancies’.This was the fourth change in the app in a month. Three other features added earlier in Jan were ‘Document Uploaded by Citizen against Notice’, ‘Quality Check of Elector Photo’, and ‘Discrepancy in Mapping’.By using the new option, the BLOs will have to upload the photo of electors and the attendance sheet for the hearing. In the last leg of the SIR hearing process, the BLOs flagged their concern that they were clueless about whether those whose hearings were already done would come under the purview of the new option. “The new option was added just a week before the completion of the hearing process. What should we do with those electors who have already attended the hearing? We are yet to get any clarification,” said a BLO in Bhowanipore. A section of BLOs also alleged that the EROs were coming late to several hearing centres, which was forcing people to stand in queues for hours.
