New Delhi. The BJP on Thursday criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks on the Center’s economic policy and said that 90 percent of Indians could not meet the basic needs, nothing else but his party has a shameless lie.

In a post on X, Kharge said on Thursday that hundred crore Indians have no additional income to spend. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘developed India’ edition vacated the pockets of common Indians and filled the chest of select billionaires. India is facing global tariff war and trade obstacles and budget announcements have proved to be disappointing.

Reacting sharply to Kharge’s comments, BJP IT department chief Amit Malviya wrote on X that the Congress president has returned with another shameless lie. Rather, the desperate and challenging figures of a party is a false thing, which has spent decades on poverty politics.

Citing the data, Malaviya said that per capita income under the Modi government has doubled, while poverty has come down from 22.5 percent in 2014 to less than five percent in 2024. More than half of the houses now have two -wheelers. Between 2014-15 and 2022-23, 25 crore Indians have come out of excessive poverty.
