Lucknow: The BJP will step up organisational mobilisation in Uttar Pradesh, with senior national leaders fanning out across the state to assess electoral preparedness ahead of next year’s Assembly elections.The drive will gain momentum in western UP when BJP national president Nitin Nabin visits Meerut on Sept 21 and Saharanpur on Sept 22. The two-day tour will focus on reviewing booth-level readiness and engaging key social groups, especially youth, as the party looks to convert its organisational strength into electoral gains.Nabin’s West UP tour follows party’s UP incharge Vinod Tawde’s organisational review of Gorakhpur region. Tawde is scheduled to undertake similar exercises in Awadh and Kashi in the coming days. BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh has already reviewed Kanpur-Bundelkhand region during his recent visit to the state.The sequence, experts said, points to a more structured exercise by BJP’s central leadership to assess party’s strengths and weaknesses region by region rather than relying only on state-level reviews.In Meerut, Nitin Nabin will take ground-level feedback from 4,500 Shakti Kendra functionaries of West UP region comprising around 70 assembly seats. The interaction is expected to provide the central leadership with direct feedback on local issues, cadre mobilisation, voter outreach and the party’s preparedness in individual constituencies.Sources said Nabin will hold a dialogue with youth at a private university. “We have completed our preparation for the party president’s visit,” said BJP Meerut district president Vivek Rastogi. He said the party organization hopes to get the desired poll traction to step up the spadework in the region.Meerut is the key gateway to West UP region. Of the seven Assembly seats in Meerut, BJP won only three — Hastinapur, Meerut Cantt and Meerut South — in the 2022 elections. Of the remaining four seats, Rashtriya Lok Dal won Siwalkhas, while the SP won Sardhana, Kithore and Meerut.In Saharanpur, Nabin will meet the district presidents of West UP region. BJP MPs and MLAs and senior organisational functionaries will also attend the meeting. BJP’s Saharanpur district president Sheetal Vishnoi said the meeting will be crucial for mobilising the ground workers ahead of the elections.Saharanpur’s electoral dynamics make it an important testing ground for BJP’s wider social outreach strategy. Its political landscape brings together western UP’s Jat and other OBC groups, Dalits, Muslims and urban voters, making constituency-specific social engineering peculiarly important.Of the seven assembly seats in Saharanpur, BJP won five in 2022 — Nakur, Saharanpur Nagar, Deoband, Rampur Maniharan and Gangoh — while SP won other seats Behat and Saharanpur Rural.Analysts said that Nabin’s West UP visit is more about converting BJP’s post-2024 lessons into a constituency-level election machine.West UP, analysts said, remains important because electoral contests there are influenced by a complex interplay of caste, community, agrarian concerns, urbanisation, youth aspirations and the political legacy of the farmers’ agitation.
