Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday accused BJP of attempting to incite communal passions to polarise voters in the municipal elections and alleged that the Centre was doing injustice to Telangana by not providing funds and approvals for key projects. He called upon the people of Telangana to think carefully before casting their vote.Addressing a media conference, the TPCC president said BJP should seek votes in the municipal elections only after informing the people of Telangana how much central funds and projects the eight MPs, including two Union ministers from Telangana, were able to secure for the state in the Union budget 2026-27.
Mahesh Goud stated Telangana’s share in the country’s GDP was 5.01% and said that, by these calculations, the state should have received 3.76 lakh crore from the Centre but received only 1.84 lakh crore in the last five years. He said that in terms of GST collections, Telangana gave 4.32 lakh crore to the Centre in five years but received back only 3.76 lakh crore. He alleged that, contrary to the spirit of federalism, the central govt was giving priority to northern states in the budget and doing injustice to southern states. He alleged that the Union budget appeared to have been designed to divert taxes paid by the people of Telangana to Gujarat and other northern states, and said he was confident that the people of Telangana, who live in religious harmony, would never support BJP. He said this was evident when the people ensured that BJP lost its deposit in the Jubilee Hills by-election.
