Varanasi: Guniya Yadav, a research scholar in the department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology at Banaras Hindu University, was honoured with the “Best Research Paper (Namita Joshi Gold Medal)”.The award was presented at the joint annual conference organised by the Indian Archaeological Society, the Indian Society for Prehistoric and Quaternary Studies, and the History and Culture Society. The conference was held from Jan 9 to 11 at the department of Anthropology, University of Lucknow.Yadav hails from Harauli village in Manihari block of Ghazipur district. She presented her research paper titled “Continuity of Pottery Tradition in Nizamabad and its Surroundings: An Ethnographic Survey.” Through this study, she conducted an in-depth exploration of the lifestyle of the traditional potter community in and around Nizamabad, highlighting cultural continuity and the enduring traditions of pottery craftsmanship. Her research particularly emphasises the role of women in this traditional craft, drawing attention to their often-invisible labour and the possibilities for their economic empowerment.
