Best time to visit Vindhyachal

Located in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh and named after the famous Vindhya Mountain Ranges, is the holy town of Vindhyachal. This town is situated 72 km from the pious city of Varanasi and is said to be the place where Goddess Durga chose to reside forever after her birth. There are various temples in this town that date back to the Ramayana era and give visitors a chance to know about the mythological past and also urges them to offer their prayers and attain blessings from the several deities in the temples. The clock tower, also known as the Ghanta Ghar, located in Mirzapur, is a few kilometers away from the religious town of Vindhyachal. This clock tower was built in 1891 and has beautiful architecture that appeals to all; the design is a perfect blend of Gothic and Indo-Saracenic architecture, which is quite notable. The entire clock tower is built in white sandstone and has been carved intricately. The clock that is ticking inside the tower is an alloy that weighs a 1000 kg. The clock tower is guarded by several security personals to guard it and see that no harm is done to the structure; also, there are a lot of offices of the Municipal Corporation of Mirzapur.

Another popular temple in Vindhyachal is the Lal Bhairav Temple in the Mirzapur district. The place where Vindhyavasini Devi resided, which is now the Vindhyavasini Temple is said to have been guarded by four divine watchmen; Lal Bhairav was one of the four people who guarded the gates and this temple is dedicated to him. Inside this temple is a shrine of Lal Bhairav, which is said to grow a few inches every now then, and is proven to be taller than what it was. This phenomena makes people believe that Lal Bhairav is actually inside the idol, due to which many devotees come to this temple and pay him a visit.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy the day in a relaxed manner, then you must go to the Lower Khajuri Dam. This is a favourite picnic spot for many tourists as well as locals as it offers a serene and calm atmosphere. Nature lovers can sit here for hours on end and wander into the beauty of nature and the serenity of the surroundings. This is a good place to come enjoy a day picnic with your family and see the beautiful waterfall from great heights. The Lower Khajuri Dam is a natural reservoir and waters massive fields nearby.

A perfect place for history lovers near Vindhyachal is the Agori Fort located in the Mirzapur district. This historic monument is quite popular among tourists, and the locals tell many stories about it. This fort is situated right by River Son and offers breathtaking views once you climb all the way to the top of the fort. This fort was built by Chandel and Kharwar kings who rules the region in a different era and used to fort to lay low from their enemies and to protect their clan as well. You can go through river Son to get to this fort to get beautiful panoramic views of the river. If you want to know more about the history of the region, this is one of the places you must visit.

Tired of doing all the touristy stuff in Vindhyachal? Well, head over to Vindhyavasini Park to enjoy a calm day at a lovely park. This is one of the top parks in the vicinity that is enjoyed by tourists and locals as well. People mostly go to this park to enjoy a morning or an evening walk, but you can simply drop by in the afternoon and take a lazy stroll around the park that has several varieties of trees, plants and flowers and just enjoy the fresh air inside the park. If you are travelling with kids, this is a nice place to go and enjoy the park. The lush greenery and the beautiful smell of flowers growing in the park is what makes the park so popular.

Situated right above a town named Chunar in Mirzapur district and a few kilometers away from Vindhyachal is the Chunar fort that has a lot of history related to it. The fort was built by the king of Ujjain, Maharaja Vikramaditya. Later on, King Sahadeo built a stone umbrella inside the fort to commemorate the victory of 53 rulers. After that the Chunar Fort became an important fort in the Mughal period as well, and was used by soldiers to protect themselves and their clan from attacks inflicted by other kingdoms. The architecture of the fort is magnificent with the southeastern part of the fort facing towards the rocky banks of River Ganga.

Vindhyachal is a town in Mirzapur located right beside River Ganga with temples dotted on the banks of the river. While visiting these temples, you can do a boat ride in the Ganges; this is the most serene way to enjoy the river and the view of the temples. The best time to enjoy a boat ride is early mornings or evenings when the priests in the temple do the aarti which is absolutely worth watching. The sound of bells, the smell of incense sticks and flowers in the air and the sound of the priests humming prayers and mantras is why most people venture on this boat ride. Apart from that the Ganga is a peaceful river and a boat ride on it is a must do while in Vindhyachal.

Set in a tranquil forest is a popular scenic waterfall by the name of Lakhaniya Dari in Mirzapur district near Vindhaychal. The Lakhaniya Dari is at a height of 150 m and the water cascades down from there into a pool, which is just great to watch. Especially during the monsoons, this place fills up with a lot of water and people especially visit to enjoy the splashes in the waterfall. You have to trek about 2-3 km to get to the main waterfall, where you will come across rivulets, rocks, huge trees etc. The water is deep and there are a lot of rocks that disappear as well, one must be careful of the surroundings while visiting this place.

Located a little far away from Vindhyachal is the Sirsi Dam which is a spectacular location because the water falls from a great height. This is one of the main picnic spots in the Mirzapur District and is constructed over the Sirsi River. Behind the Sirsi Dam in the backdrop are the Vindhya ranges that provide a more serene feel to the place. When the water falls from such a height, a water mist is created that puts spectators in awe of nature. This is a great place to get away from the city and enjoy a picnic with your friends and family.
