Best time to visit Vindhyachal

Located in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh and named after the famous Vindhya Mountain Ranges, is the holy town of Vindhyachal. This town is situated 72 km from the pious city of Varanasi and is said to be the place where Goddess Durga chose to reside forever after her birth. There are various temples in this town that date back to the Ramayana era and give visitors a chance to know about the mythological past and also urges them to offer their prayers and attain blessings from the several deities in the temples. But, other than the many temples in the area, there are many more things to do in Vindhyachal that are worth indulging, let’s have a look at some of them.

The clock tower, also known as the Ghanta Ghar, located in Mirzapur, is a few kilometers away from the religious town of Vindhyachal. The entire clock tower is built in white sandstone and has been carved intricately. The clock that is ticking inside the tower is an alloy that weighs a 1000 kg. The clock tower is guarded by several security personals to guard it and see that no harm is done to the structure; also, there are a lot of offices of the Municipal Corporation of Mirzapur.

Inside this temple is a shrine of Lal Bhairav, which is said to grow a few inches every now then, and is proven to be taller than what it was. This phenomena makes people believe that Lal Bhairav is actually inside the idol, due to which many devotees come to this temple and pay him a visit.

The fort was built by the king of Ujjain, Maharaja Vikramaditya. Later on, King Sahadeo built a stone umbrella inside the fort to commemorate the victory of 53 rulers. After that the Chunar Fort became an important fort in the Mughal period as well, and was used by soldiers to protect themselves and their clan from attacks inflicted by other kingdoms. The architecture of the fort is magnificent with the southeastern part of the fort facing towards the rocky banks of River Ganga.

The Lakhaniya Dari is at a height of 150 m and the water cascades down from there into a pool, which is just great to watch. Especially during the monsoons, this place fills up with a lot of water and people especially visit to enjoy the splashes in the waterfall. You have to trek about 2-3 km to get to the main waterfall, where you will come across rivulets, rocks, huge trees etc. The water is deep and there are a lot of rocks that disappear as well, one must be careful of the surroundings while visiting this place.

When the water falls from such a height, a water mist is created that puts spectators in awe of nature.
